Kempower Debuts Dual-Standard Charger for Cars and Heavy Trucks

Kempower has introduced the Mega Satellite Flex, a charging unit built to serve two very different categories of electric vehicles from a single piece of hardware. The Finnish charging manufacturer designed it to handle both the CCS standard, which currently dominates passenger EV charging, and the newer Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which is being built out for electric trucks that require far greater power delivery. One Site, Two Charging Standards

The core idea behind the Mega Satellite Flex is consolidation. Rather than building separate charging infrastructure for passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks, operators can now install one dispenser capable of serving both from day one. The Mega Satellite Flex supports up to 560 kW through CCS and up to 1.2 MW through MCS, drawing as much as 700 amps and 1,500 amps respectively. It also accommodates 800-volt EV architectures, an increasingly common design in newer electric vehicles that allows for faster charging when paired with compatible hardware. Cable lengths differ by standard: 5 meters for CCS connections and 2.7 meters for MCS, reflecting the different vehicle geometries each standard was designed to serve.
